Dreams

Dreams is an interactive choose-your-own-adventure story, made for a computer music class. At the end of the semester, the class normally had a live final performance. Due to the pandemic, this had to be done over Zoom. Rather than be discouraged by the change, my partner and I chose to embrace it. We created a story where the audience could vote on the path of the story using Zoom polls. Accompanying the reading of the story, we performed music live, both through triggering loops and playing instruments, with all the sound routed through Zoom.

The story brings the audience through a dream sequence consisting of several scenarios: a cafe, a magical forest, and an ocean. The instrumentation included soft piano, vibraphone, windchimes, voices, violins, synths, spoken word, and more.

The performance was very well received! The audience chose to play multiple times to see different paths.

Unfortunately, the performance wasn't recorded, but here is our map of the story. Color indicates emotional tone, and the numbers written near the text boxes were the numbers of the Zoom polls I needed to activate during the live performance.
